New work by Bradford Artists showing now at Tambourine Saltaire

  • Free art exhibition from 1st Aug to 10th Sept 2017 at Tambourine Saltaire

  • Family-friendly ‘Meet the artists’ afternoon on Sunday 27th August, 2-4pm

‘Summer is Colour’ is an exhibition of new work by three Bradford artists: painter Bay Backner, designer Catherine Worsley and printmaker Dave Jones. It can be seen over the summer holiday at Saltaire’s newest coffee shop and art space, Tambourine.

A free, family-friendly ‘Meet the artists’ afternoon is planned for Sunday 27th August, 2-4pm. There’ll be live painting demos and the chance for art-lovers of all ages to ask an artist about their work.

“It’s exciting to show art in such a family-friendly place,” says artist and exhibition curator Bay Backner. “We’ve created an exhibition perfect for the summer holidays with bold lines and bright colour… and a few famous faces!”

‘I met Bay on the very first day I got the keys to Tambourine and we spoke about doing an event,” adds Tambourine owner Chris Large. “The talent here in Bradford is amazing and I’m excited to see such great art on our walls this summer.”

‘Summer is Colour’ runs at Tambourine until 10th September 2017. The exhibition is open everyday, with the coffee shop opening times on Tambourine’s website, tambourinecoffee.co.uk

More about the artists:

Bay Backner

Bay Backner is a contemporary artist living in Saltaire. She paints in oil paint on stretched canvas, and then creates limited-edition prints in archival ink.

Bay’s style is informed by fine-art’s ‘old masters’ as well as today’s street artists and fashion photographers. Her paintings were recently featured by Grazia Magazine.

“My work celebrates fashion and pop culture, while questioning our use of digital image. I’m especially fascinated by modern ‘icons’ and their appropriation by social media.”

“Oh wow this is absolutely incredible”
— McKenna Hellam, Haute Couture Model, Dior

Catherine Worsley

Catherine Worsley is a designer living in Saltaire. She has a background in Graphic Design & Illustration but over the last few years has developed a life-changing passion for Pattern Design. She works in many different mediums and loves experimenting with bold colours. Her aim is to take the viewer to a happy place.

“I can be inspired by almost anything but mostly nature, travelling, books and fairy lights. You’ll often find me doodling in Tambourine. My work is hand-drawn or painted and then enhanced digitally to create dynamic and textured designs.”

Catherine’s patterns have been reproduced on homewares and textiles, and she can be commissioned through her company Northern Lights Creative. She is currently designing more collections for the UK and America.

Dave Jones

Dave Jones is a graphic designer living in Shipley. His contemporary prints are inspired by nature and the great outdoors, hence the name of his print practice, The Outdoors Print Co.

“I use organic shape and colour throughout my designs. My aim is to create a simplistic and minimal feel while representing the colourful forms and natural aesthetic of the great outdoors.”

“My prints are printed to the highest of standards using a digital printing technique, known as Giclee. They are printed on 308gsm Hahnemuhle uncoated paper stock for a super exceptional finish.”
