Yorkshire Bank Bike Library – Shipley

Children living in Shipley and the surrounding area are now able to ride a bike for FREE following the launch of a new Yorkshire Bank Bike Library at the MCF Bikery, 4 Thomas Duggan House, Manor Lane, Shipley.

The new bike library offers free bike loans for children and families, as well as bike safety advice, affordable bike repairs and servicing, and led rides.

MCF Bikery - Shipley

Shipley bike library has been launched by the Bradford-based Margaret Carey Foundation – a charity which gives prisoners the chance to learn new skills by repairing bikes and wheelchairs.

Old and unwanted bikes can also be donated at the library from where they will be sent to the charity’s prison workshops to be cleaned and repaired to a high standard before they are loaned out to children and families who don’t have bikes of their own.

Bikes are available to loan from the Shipley Bikery at the following times:

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 3.00 – 5.00pm
  • Thursdays: 11.00am – 7.00pm
  • Saturdays: 10.00am – 12.00pm

To register with the scheme all you need to do is bring some photo ID along then you can borrow a bike, for free, for up to 3 days. Safety is important when cycling so all bikes come with a helmet, lights, a lock and high vis jacket (for children).

There is a bike trailer, a child seat and a couple of tag-alongs available to hire so all the family can get out on bikes for a day. Roberts Park and the canal path are easily accessible from Shipley town centre and perfect for a car free family bike ride.

The number of bikes available to loan is limited so please call 07933 488314 during busy periods to check availability.

For more information, please visit the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries website.

The MCF Bikery also has a great selection of refurbished children’s and adult’s bikes, which are available to buy from as little as £20.
