Meet Meerkats, Monkeys and much more at Ponderosa!

It’s taken me a while to write this blogpost, but a few months ago, we visited Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre in Heckmondwike. I’d heard of Ponderosa, but didn’t realise how fantastic it was until we actually went to visit! It completely exceeded my expectations in every way and we all enjoyed a fantastic day out.

Ponderosa is an all in one farm and play area, designed to bridge the gap between disabled and able bodied people. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the farm houses many rare breeds and exotic animals including reindeer, llamas, meerkats and armadillos. There’s also a reptile room, aviaries and aquarium.

Indoors you’ll find the Bonanza Play Barn (a soft play area suitable for children up to the age of 8 years old), as well as numerous outdoor play areas including a beach, parks and gardens.

There’s also a lakeside restaurant, ice cream parlour, outdoor picnic and seating areas and a gift shop.

Pony rides are available daily in the summer and at weekends in the winter for just £1.50. You can also purchase animal feed for 50p a bag, which can be fed to the llamas, goats, pigs, sheep, donkeys, horses and reindeer.
